Horse groups pull together to relocate south Reno area Virginia Range horses
Thirteen horses that were
removed from the south Reno area of the Virginia Range by the Nevada
Department of Agriculture
now have new
homes. The horses were acquired by Betty Lee Kelly of Wild
Horse Spirit with assistance from Horsepower. Volunteers from the Let 'Em
Run Foundation, Least Resistance
Training Concepts and the Hidden
Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund assisted with the logistics involved
in relocating the horses.
The majority of the horses were turned
out onto a large fenced pasture with natural vegetation, varied
land form elevations and all-year
water including a pond. A stallion and mare pair known to the locals
as "Romeo and Juliette" were placed at the Nevada
B Ranch Mustang Sanctuary. The Nevada B staff also made the arrangements
for the pasture for the larger
portion of the horses. The representatives from Hidden Valley who
had watched over these horses for years prior to their removal were
pleased with the relocations. The various groups working in cooperation
provided a safe relocation for these horses that were very popular
with many of the residents of south Reno who lived near the horse
range.
