Things You Should Know About The Comstock Wild Horses

  • There are more than 1,000 of these horses living in harmony in the mountains of the Virginia Range between Virginia City, Reno, Dayton and Carson City, Nevada.
  • They are not true "Mustangs." They are considered "estray" horses descended from loyal animals who were owned and abandoned by miners, ranchers, cowboys and others — and often have very good blood lines.
  • They are more gentle than typical wild horses, can be adopted for as little as $125.00 and, if properly trained, make strong, intelligent, loving, loyal mounts.

  • They have played an important role in the history of the west, have survived against all odds, and deserve to live — either by running free or, when needed, through adoption.
  • They deserve to be gently trained and handled lovingly.
  • They are protected by the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association and the Nevada Department of Agriculture who oversee all adoptions.
  • NOW is the time to set aside land so that there will always be a place for these Comstock wild horses to run free. Please click here to see how you can help!
