What We Have Done So Far

Although the Let 'em Run Foundation has only been in existence since 1998, our accomplishments (Milestones) to date have been impressive:

  • April 1999 — Let 'em Run Foundation becomes a nonprofit corporation.
  • May 1999 — Work begins on the fundraising album "Wild Horse Crossing." Proceeds from the album benefit the Comstock Wild Horses and other wildlife in Storey County.
  • September 1999 — "Wild Horse Crossing" goes on sale.
  • October 1999 — Lacy J. Dalton and Friends perform the "Wild Horse Crossing" album at the historic Piper's Opera House in Virginia City, NV and raise over $5,000.00
  • January 2000 — Over $25,000.00 has been raised by the Let 'em Run Foundation for the Comstock Wild Horses including $4,800.00 to fund a wild horse adoption and training program using convicts to train horses at Carson City's maximum security prison.
  • 1999/2000 — Documentaries on the Comstock wild horses are filmed. "In the Company of Horses" airs on A&E and e-mail starts flooding in. Grants are being sought to finish the PBS High Definition Documentary "Sanctuary."
  • May 2000 — IRS grants 501(c)(3) nonprofit status to the Let 'em Run Foundation.
  • May 2000 — Lacy J. Dalton donates her services to the Nevada Shakespeare Festival by playing the title role in "Annie Get Your Gun" to help raise money for the wild horses (six sold-out performances).
  • June 2000 — Thousands attend a benefit performance by Lacy J. Dalton in Carson City, NV (sponsored by the Carson City Convention and Tourism Authority and Carson/Tahoe Hospital). Fifty per cent of the proceeds go directly to the Let 'em Run Foundation.
  • September 2000 — Let 'em Run Foundation hosts meeting with representatives from the Nevada Lt. Governor's office, the American Land Conservancy, area developers, leaders of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, local political leaders and local horse advocacy groups. Proposals for implementing plans for a wild horse sanctuary in the Virginia Range were shared and some exciting connections began between the various organizations in attendance.
  • 2001-2003 — Many, MANY accomplishments continue to happen through the tireless efforts of our all-volunteer staff and board members. Important political concerns continue to be addresses and many alliances have formed or are forming. Please see our NEWS section for the latest details.
  • November 2003 — Comstock Wild Horse & Mining Museum wins the Nevada Governor's Award for Tourism for 2003!
